I wonder, who is the person or the organization that got the idea to bring EDI from VAN into the internet, is he Mr. Chuck Shih, Mr. Rik Drummond, or Mats Jannson, then why he did that, is VAN connectivity very expensive?
thanks

I’m sure there many people thinking about this. It was Michael Higgins, an architect at Netscape, who was the main visionary behind that eventually became ECXpert. As product manager, I recognized that it would be critical to make sure that the EDI Internet products inter-operated, so that is why the CommerceNet interoperability testing was started. Michael now lives in Ireland.

There was a belief that using an open network protocol would be less expensive than a VAN. In truth, using the Internet for direct connections with suppliers meant that the customer would need to incur costs to on-board and provide on-going support to suppliers. This supplier support service was included in the VAN fees.
